Royal Blood & Mini Mansions @ Amos'

New bands.  New Venue.  Looking forward to a good night.

Mini Mansions had already (just) started when I walked into Amos' - a barn-looking venue in the South End.  A good sized crowd got a dose of Divine Fits-ish rock.  Not really to my liking but they did do a great cover of Blondie's Heart Of Glass.  So different you could see people singing it, but you could tell they couldn't tell how they knew it or how the original sounded.

I had never heard of Royal Blood until earlier this year when they won a Brit Award for best band, looked them up on You Tube and saw the Little Monsters clip and instantly fell in love.  Was stoked when I heard they were coming to Charlotte.  As were a lot of other people.  Amos' was at near capacity by the time Royal Blood walked onto stage to 99 Problems.  And from the get go we were in for a rocking night.  Royal Blood have an album's worth of material and the band played the lot of them.  For a 2 piece they project a great energy and a fantastic sound (though mixing took a few songs to get it right).  This was a solid show put on by an appreciative band.  They were blown away by the size of the crowd, telling us that this time a year ago they played to 20 people at the Tremont.  It will be interesting to see the venue they play next time around.
