Undated Concerts

Head Injuries @ The Zoo

What I remember (in 2024)...
Had a big night at BJ & Naag's before heading down to The Zoo.
From across the room, Beck threw a schooner, missing everyone, but hitting her target, Troy, in the head.

Unseen @ The Hopetoun

What I remember (in 2024)...
This was some kind of Battle of the Bands type scenario.  Unseen did not win.
Noah Taylor was at the bar, watching all the bands.

Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs @ The Zoo

What I remember (in 2024)...
I went to this show with Mum & Dad.  When Mum was asked for ID at the door, she didn't have any.  She pointed and me and said "That's my son!".  Security looked shocked and let her through.
I only knew 1 song - Most People I Know (Think That I'm Crazy).

silverchair @ The Zoo

What I remember (in 2024)...
I went to the show with Roberta.
This was the start of silverchair-mania.  Tomorrow had just topped the charts.
I've never seen The Zoo so packed.  It was hot and the mosh pit was a swirling mess.  silverchair seemed humbled by the response of the crowd.  Great show.

Pantera & Powderfinger @ Entertainment Center

Pantera Setlist Sydney Entertainment Centre, Sydney, Australia 1994, Far Beyond Touring the World

What I remember (in 2024)...
I drove down for the concert.  I went with Jason McClean and a mate of his.  We were on the general admission floor.
Powderfinger were heavier than they ended up being, but still not a match to open for Pantera (I thought).
Pantera were excellent.  And they were having a great time.  At one point they rolled out a black case full of VBs and were throwing them out into the audience.
I was surprised they didn't play Mouth For War - probably their biggest hit in Australia to date.

Gold Coast, QLD

What I remember (in 2024)...
This was my first flight.
Went with the McCallums for a holiday on the Gold Coast for 11 days.  Originally stayed with Deano and Corky, but there place was so rancid, we ended up back at Mr & Mrs McCallum's apartment in Mermaid Beach.  Much more civilized.
One day was spent at Movieworld and Brett and I had a night at Juptier's Casino - don't really remember too much else.
Flew home on 10 November.

Beastie Boys & Helmet @ Horden Pavilion

Beastie Boys Setlist Hordern Pavilion, Sydney, Australia 1994, Ill Communication

What I remember (in 2024)...
The afternoon started at Brooke's in Randwick as people were going out for her 21st birthday.  I left early to get to the Hordern.
Helmet were excellent, and so loud.
Beastie Boys didn't do it for me.  Except for Sabotage as the last song.

Boom Crash Opera & Electric Hippies @ Selina's

What I remember (in 2024)...
All the Coastie Boys had gathered at Luvvo's for the weekend to attend the Baxter Ball through UNSW.
It was a $50 all you can drink black tie event.  The boys made sure we got our money's worth early (then any further drink was a bonus).
It was the night I met Roberta.
The party continued the following day at the Uni, where things got really messy again.  I have no idea how I was able to hold in that much alcohol back in those days.

The Sharp @ The Zoo

What I remember (in 2024)...
Went with a blind date (whose name escapes me) set up by Melynda.
Show was fun until The Sharp did the audience interaction where they made everyone get down on the ground and all jump up together.  Neither of us were that comfortable with each other.
There was no 2nd date.

Unseen @ Manly Vale Hotel

What I remember (in 2024)...
Went from work in Chatswood to Brooke & Lewy's in Cremorne.  Lewy was out of town for work, but Brooke & I went for dinner with her dad at a Tex-Mex place in Neutral Bay before we went out to the concert.  Before we left, Lewy called, I answered the phone in a French accent, and played like I was "with" Brooke.  He lost his shit.  That's what you do to friends.
Did not stay for Peg, left straight after dad played.

What I remember (in 2024)...

Small crowd. Link Meanie wouldn't start until everyone there was on the dance floor in front of the stage. He even went out and dragged people forward.

Rollins Band, Tumbleweed & Kim Salmon & The Surrealists @ Hordern Pavilion

What I remember (in 2024)...
Drove down from the coast on my own in my new car.
Tumbleweed looked great on the big stage.
It was so hot for the Rollins Band set.  People were throwing stuff on stage, but Henry was having none of it.  After being hit by debris he asked the audience how hot is was (you could see steam rising).  The crowd went wild when he bought a couple of bottles of water out, then proceeded to open them and pour them on the floor in front of him.  6000 people were devastated.
I bought a long-sleeve ROllins shirt, with the Search & Destroy tattoo print on the back and dates on the arm.

Tumbleweed, Hard Ons & Magic Dirt @ Selina's

What I remember (in 2024)...
Went with Benno, Luvvo and John-Paul.
The night started at Benno's girlfriend's parents' place in Milsons Point.  We caught a ferry over to Circular Quay, where we had a stack of cones, before catching a bus down to Coogee.
Magic Dirt impressed tonight, after I'd seen them at the Pavement concert last year.

Big Day Out @ Sydney Showgrounds

Soundgarden Setlist Big Day Out Sydney 1994 1994, 1994 Pacific Rim Tour

What I remember (in 2024)...
Went with Marieka.
Started in the Horden with Trout Fishing In Quebec and Crow.
Main Stage 2 with Def FX.  The set Fiona Horne did topless.
Main Stage with Tumbleweed.  Got in the thick of it for Tumbleweed and couldn't function afterwards.  Spent 2 hours away from the music. What a waste!
Smashing Pumpkins on the Main Stage.
Left early to see some Mark of Cain on the Skate Stage.
Got a spot by the sound desk at The Main Stage for the Ramones.  3 songs in an American accent asks how long they've been on.  Without looking, I answer 5 minutes, then look up.  It's Kim Thyall from Soundgarden.
Caught some Screamfeeder on the Skate Stage on my way to the Celibate Rifles inside the Hordern.
Bjork had cancelled so there was a little bit of time before Soundgarden came on the Main Stage.
Can't remember why we didn't stay for Primus.

Lemonheads,Tumbleweed & 3D's @ Selina's

What I remember (in 2024)...
I met Troy in the city after work and we made our way out to Roger's in Kensington.
Packed venue.  Tumbleweed were great and Evan Dando was out of it, but the Lemonheads were good.
I am a big fan of Selina's set up, and the Coogee Bay Hotel in general.
I bought a Lemonheads shirt with all the dates on the back.  I'm not sure when I lost / grew out of that shirt.
Stayed at Roger's and woke to the next morning to find bushfires had ripped through the Hawkesbury River and Central Coast.  The Pacific Highway was closed and the fire was so intense it had warped the rail lines.  We ended up stuck in Sydney for the weekend.  I went to work Monday morning from Roger's and didn't get home till late Monday night
