Russell Gilbert & Trevor Marmalade @ Central Coast Leagues

What I remember (in 2024)...
Was with the boys from school.  We sat at a table at the front and I copped a bit of grief about working for Social Security.  But not as much as the lady who said she was working on an arts degree.  She was told to talk to me before she left, because her degree mant we'd meet eventually.

Alice In Chains, Suicidal Tendencies & Poor Boys @ Hordern Pavilion

Alice in Chains Setlist Hordern Pavilion, Sydney, Australia, Asia/Australia Tour 1993

What I remember (in 2024)...
Caught the train down from the coast with Marieka.
Suicidals were blisteringly fast.
Alice In Chains started the show behind a white curtain, that had rope behind it.  Lighting would shine behind individual band members playing, while Layne climbed around the ropes.  When Nutshell finished, the first drum beat of It Ain't Like That saw the curtain fall.
At some point someone was spitting on Layne.  He asked the crowd to stop.  A 2nd time he stopped a song and threatened to beat the person up if he caught them.  The very next song, he dove into the crowd and started beating on someone.  That person was probably saved by security getting rid of them pretty quick.  After the song finished, Staley questions why you'd pay $40 to spit on someone, continue to do it when you were asked to stop, and then get shitty when you got called out and beaten up.
I bought a t-shirt that had the cover of Dirt on the front and dates on the back.  I don't remember when I stopped having it.
Running for what we thought was our train, we jumped on one as it was leaving.  It was not ours, and heading down the Wollongong line.  We had to get off, get back to Central and finally get the right train home.

Bodycount & Dreamkillers @ Hordern Pavilion

What I remember (in 2024)...
I went to this show on my own.
Was right up the front for the Dreamkillers.  The lead singer wore like a loin cloth and was covered head to toe in tattoos.
Crowd for Bodycount was wild.  Cop Killer was one of those goosebump moment songs.  It was so powerful.
I bought a Bodycount t-shirt, but don't remember what happened to it.

You Am I, Daisygrinders, Hellmenn & Powderfinger @ Phoenician Club

What I remember (in 2024)...
Marieka and I drove down to this show in Gaz's car.
We sat on the balcony, right at the front above the stage.
The Hellmenn were fast and loud.
Someone got up to stagedive and knocked the microphone into Tim Rogers' mauth.  He grabbed him, the band stopped the song and they all kicked him out of the door behind the drums.  I saw the punter outside the venue after, and he had a black eye.

Pavement, Crow, Screamfeeder & Magic Dirt @ Max's

What I remember (in 2024)...
Met Butch after work and went out to Petersham for this show, then caught the train back up the Coast.
Magic Dirt played in the front bar in between when the bands played in the main room.  I believe this was their first ever Sydney show.  They were awful.
We were greeted at the door by Pavement's drummer Gary Young, who ripped a page out of a Jaws book as you handed him your ticket.  He would also stop playing mid-song in order to do a handstand on stage.  He also found an umbrella which he gave to an audience member, who was instructed to make sure every one got to hold it.
I was wearing a Crow T-shirt, when Peter Fenton walked past me and said "Cool shirt!".  To which I replied "Cool band!"

Big Day Out @ Sydney Showgrounds

After the first Big Day Out in 1992, where Violent Femmes and Nirvana headlined, there was never a doubt whether I'd go the following year.

A few extra people and a more international line up, but a wild day. I got to see the Hard Ons with Jerry A, Sonic Youth, Beasts Of Bourbon, Iggy Pop, Helmet, Def FX, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Tumbleweed,  You Am I, Headache, Mudhoney, Front End Loader and Daisygrinders.

From what I remember, 17 years later, I had a great day. Was stoked to finally see Sonic Youth. Iggy was incredible (including an all-star version of "I Wanna Be Your Dog). Mudhoney were amazing (right in the middle of my love of grunge) Hard Ons followed up their previous years exploits with Henry Rollins with an equally impressive set with Jerry A of Poison Idea. Helmet ripped the tops off everyone's heads. I became a Nick Cave fan that day. And Tumbleweed were the best of the Aussie bands - but that goes without saying.

I don't think I had started my "go to a concert, buy a shirt" phase yet. So the shirt below was actually not an official shirt, but one I picked up as an after thought outside for about $10.
